I'm not 100% but on the IPB Forum I run you can enable a "Start Rating" on threads and posts -

As long as all the posts are moderated it shouldn't upset anyone -

So it would work as follows -

Thread on - "Harrets - Sheffield" would get an over all Star Rating based on the amount of Stars each user (Post) gave - The user would post Date / Time / Work Done and Cost

A simpler version could all so be done via the Poll system -
eg-
Thread on - "Harrets - Sheffield" Poll - Recommend / Use Again Y/N - Again the user would post Date / Time / Work Done and Cost (or something like)

I do think it would be valuable resource giving a long time over view and point of referance...

Hope this helps

Nic

extraordniary behaviour from the dealership= the 1st rule of being a salesman is NEVER prejudge ANYONE!!!!

I do have a laugh at work at the moment. I'm working for a large FMCG which has prestigious offices in St Albans, I'm in quite a senior role so I have an exec parking space outside the front of the office. Being self employed I run my 'new' 1989 240 GLT Saloon as my main car - this being the winter and me doing 500 miles a week the car is usually covered in salt and crud.

What is particularly hilarious is my colleagues drive 7 top of the range mercs, bimmers and there are even a few Bentlys. So parked next to my 500 quid volvo there is probably abouth a million worth of car. However, I qualify for the weekly valet service!

Fair dos to the CEO though - when a PA complained about OLAF letting down the front of the office he said ' all I see is a row of quality cars' and if a car like that is good enough for Ingvar from IKEA then it is in its right place outside the office!

so being scruffy isn't always 'that' bad!

Hi peeps, Just a quick 1 to say I know how u feel yesterday I had my beloved 850 dropped at Pilling in Lemsford they all looked at me in my jeans and billabong jacket like I had herpies and was gonna infect them all. I had 2 chat up the girls on service infront of my missus (lol) b4 they would deal with my car. The trouble with Volvo dealers they are only franchises abd generally dont car about long term owners like us. Unlike Land Rover who realise you cant make money out of new sales and warranty.

I'd disagree about Land Rover dealers not making money on Warranty... my dad told me a story about one dealer who could afford to build, fit out and staff a whole workshop bay on the quantity of warranty work they were doing (and it's not that long ago, 5 or 6yrs max)

I went into my local dealer just for a browse as you do, had on my jeans and t shirt.
As space is always at a premium i parked infront of one of the demonstartors.
I asked if anyone was free as i was looking at the new c70, was politley told, ''they are very expensive, and we have somone coming in for a look around in a bit''
anyway to cut a long story short i was about to leave when another sales guy came in from outside and asked if anyone owned the Jag xj outside, i apologised and told him i would move it, same salesman that had told me that the c70 was expensive went bright red and asked if he could move it (probably just to get a sit in it) while the branch manager got me a coffee!! safe to say i said no i will move it and went to the BMW garage over the road.

Sales guy from outside wandered over to the BMW garage and just said, ''he is in with the manager now if you would like to pop over''!!!

I drove back to work ut the jag back in the pool cars and 2 weeks later bought a s40 from the other guy that was outside, so guess who missed his bonus that month

My dealership has now gone - on the Isle of Wight there is no longer a dealership - apparently the Southampton branch of the group who controlled it expecte people to spend an hour (each way) on the ferry, pay for 50% of the ferry cost and essentially stooge around the city until whatever job is completed - I'm off the to the local 'back street' garage

That does sound a bit harsh, but I have to say that King's Volvo in Southampton aren't bad as main dealers go.

Reminds me of couple of friends of mine who went to buy their current V50. One of them had a 3 year old V80 as a company car which was about to go back as its lease was coming to an end.

Not far into the conversation the sales 'droid said "Naturally you'll be getting the V50 as a smaller car for your wife." To which my (male) friend responded "Actually it's for both of us and as it happens, my boyfriend here is just as good at reversing small cars into obstacles as he is with large ones." Apparently the sales 'driod went bright red, apologised and did them a great deal.

The final joke though was at the dealer's expense - they put the wrong number plates on and no-one noticed until 12 months later when it was time to renew the tax and they realised the plates didn't correspond with the number on the V5!
