Last year I was looking into this matter and I found these guys online that used to make tasteful short shifters for our cars. Unfortunately they stopped producing. I seacrhed the whole internet and couldn't find anyone producing a similar product. Anyone with the necessary skills would make money if they started doing them.
Anyway, if I remember currectly these guys modded original shifters, they didn't produce them from scracth, so maybe the same exact issue of supply shortage is at the root of their halting of production.

If one removes just the knob, either with the tool of by cutting it, perhaps another period currect knob could be fitted!? I guess finding a knob that fits the girth of the shaft would be easy, but the grove for the bellows would not be the same... It's one of those that looks like an easy detail to fix, until yoiu start looking into it.

Steve, it's easier you change your whole personality to fit that knob, than to explain to everyone who asks, the whole story behind the knob and why you cannot change it. With the right stickers, a cold air intake and an exhaust tip it will all make sense and you won't have to explain yourself everytime. Delete some of those extra, unnecessary back and passenger seats and you are good to go.

Sorry for the unintended double entendre, Steve. Modifying the existing stick was meant to be a serious suggestion, but I can now see how it may be misconstrued by some and hence the 'funny' side. I'll have to choose my words more carefully in future, but I also feel sure you will realise that no offense was intended.

Regards, John.

Due to pick up the old thing tomorrow, when I will be able to see if the old lever is in the pile of parts.

Just seen this on eBay though, any thoughts on if this would fit a 1994 2.3 non turbo ??

Cheers
Steve

I think that either the link to eBay failed or you have accidentally omitted to include it Steve.

Regards, John.

And no, I wouldn’t pay the asking price 😀😀

Would it fit though ??

If so might be worth contacting seller with an offer, he’s got 2 choices.

Cheers

If the description is accurate, it should fit, Steve. Would it not be more prudent though to wait and see if the original lever is indeed included with the box of bits - assuming that the P.O. didn't through it away? It seems a pity to risk £50 or so unnecessarily, although I guess that you could always resell it. Or you could keep it as a spare, but it is not something normally prone to failure in my experience.

Regards, John.

Hi John,

That’s good news, and yes that’s exactly my plan, rummage through the bags of spares first, drive it back and see exactly how annoying that monstrosity is for a week.

Cheers
Steve
