As I have only owned this car for five and a half years and in that time I have increased the mileage to 69000 miles,I suppose I shall get to dislike it with time.

I knew things would go downhill:
Front Goodyears worn out after only 22'000 miles.
Both bottom ball joints require replacement.
By the time they are done,I will have spent £1100 on mechanical replacements since November 2003!!!!! Excluding tyres . Is there no end to this.?

Default Pudlog is sad to say

My 760 GLE Est. is guilty of traveling more than 500k miles still runs well but a sun roof let water into roof space, drains did not fully clear the damp. roof is rotting spoiling a big gentle pussey cat with the most smooth enjoyable drive.
What a moter to add a KERS system too. Not the F1 system more a down hill retarder/economy assister.

That's pretty good going for a big heavy FWD car. The rears wear very slowly, as compensation! You can only expect to get around 6k out of a set of fronts in a T5. I got 18k out of the Vredesteins I had on the front of my S70 (also a 2.5 20v), and I was pretty over the moon with that, given that I drive it hard.

£1100 in over five years...barely over £200 a year? Many people pay far more than that each month in finance payments on a new car! In two years (and 40k miles) my S70 has had a clutch, air mass meter, power steering pump, and two CV gaiters...and I think it's done reasonably well. At retail price (not from the dealer) there's about £500 there. There have been a few other items, but they've been the result of mis-diagnosis / stupidity.

cheers

James

Well that nice Mr Brown is willing to give me £2000 for the old lady to get her off the road so that I can buy(on credit) a little oil burner made somewhere on the other side of the world!!!
I have replaced the Goodyears with Vredenstiens, the old tyres had only worn on the shoulders of course, but then I do enjoy hustling through the bends.

They're desperate to keep people in car manufacturing jobs...

A friend did just manage to get a brand new runaround for his Mrs for about £4.5k (with £2k from the scrappage scheme), which you can't really argue with...but I can't say I'm rushing to have the S70 crushed so I can blow the remaining £28k on an equivalent new S80.

cheers

James

The problem is James , that most of those "manufacturing" jobs will be elsewhere,we manufacture very few cars in this country,we assemble a hell of a lot.

Well that's true. Very little manufacturing left now in any sector. My employer more or less ended UK-based manufacturing just over a year ago. Kinda sad, but when all the buyer are interested in is price, price, price...!

I take it that's a 1.4, then? Yeah, they're pretty slow. 1.7s are ok. Better with a Renault 16v swap

Get a 360, and both problems are solved...especially if you turbocharge it

cheers
