So its been a while since I last posted
Loads of other garage projects and a new family has meant this project stalled a few years ago and unfortunately I will never get the time to finish it properly. To make my life easier I've decided to revert back to using my ST170 turbo motor in the Westfield which is more complete and easier to finish. Everything Volvo related that is listed in this thread will be for sale. PM me for more information if interested in parts or as a whole package |

Hi guys,
Would any of you guys know if the btcc 850 5 cylinder engines used a balance shaft? I know balance shafts do not like these high rpms. |

I doubt it as they were never a fundamental part of the engine ...

I was thinking the same thing. I am going to build an Na and I was trying to figure out how to keep the engine from shaking apart without the use of a balance shaft.

It used a harmonic balancer in front of the crankshaft and proper counter weights on the crank I believe.
