I'm possibly jinxing myself - but no problems over 20 months and 24k. However, i always use V-Power - i wonder if less soot/fewer regens makes a difference ? (When in France recently i couldn't get Vpower - so filled with supermarket diesel - under a quid a litre which was nice, but i did notice the car regenerating which i hadn't done before.

I've only ever used Asda's cheapest diesel and never had a problem - yet! I'm still not sure if I want the egr problem to rear its ugly head and be done with it, before the 3 year warranty is up.

Some owners that have had EGR replacements also say they used V-Power / Ultimate exclusively prior to the problems, so I'm not sure it makes a significant difference ...

I am one of those owners. Faithfully used Nitro Vpower from Shell from new and it made absolutely no difference at all. Switched to standard diesel, albeit not from a supermarket, and life continues without any observable differences.

Conclusion: save yourself some money people!

I did notice an increase in mpg with mine. Sounded slightly better as well. The motorbikes went considerably faster and stopped eating fuel pipes. Same for the lawnmowers and chainsaws. Reduced the maintenance time for those little engines which is why we pay out for it for them.

I think the current opinion is that Premium Petrol is indeed a better fuel than 'normal', whereas for diesel 'the jury is out'. Despite this, I use V-Power Diesel.

No just the one, that seems to be fixed at last.

Seems to have put him off V+ though. Trouble is fuel does not pass through the EGR other than as exhaust gases so whatever fuel used isn't going to help keep that clean. Works OK on the fuel and head combustion though from my experience. Meant to keep the area it burns in clean. EGR is a bit out of it's remit I think.

Only ever the EGR related issue. What I am saying is that, while using Vpower, the EGR problems were just as frequent as when we switched to normal Shell diesel.

Since we had the proper EGR fix in early 2016 under warranty the car has been a joy with no problems. We still use normal Shell diesel as we have noticed no difference whatsoever.

My point is simple..... my own experience is that there doesn't seem to be any correlation between use of premium fuel and EGR failure. I don't think there is any causal link. Previous recent posts have offered a technical reason why there would not be any link and I bow to their greater wisdom in these things. My conclusion is based upon outcomes for us.

My dealer tells me that there is absolutely no need to use VPower but that I should steer clear of supermarket diesel. At the end of the day, it's a 4pot Diesel engine.

Agree steer clear of supermarket fuel it's a case of you get what you pay for personally I use V power or equivalent but that's my choice.
