It turns out that the injectors on 06 and 07 Passats have a known manufacturing fault and VW replace them for free.

It makes Volvo's response to the known fault with the spline rings even more annoying becuase if other manufacturers replace faulty parts on high mileage cars out of warranty why can't they.

Brand loyalyty is hugely important, and i know where mine does and doesn't lie.

Next car for me won't be a Volvo and will in all likeliness now be a VW Tiguan or Toureag
Volvo did replace the sleeve on high milers free for some years, but all cars with the original type sleeve are over 5 years old now. It wasn't a manufacturing fault that led to a shorter than anticipated life, but a design one and not all cars had their sleeves fail, in the same way that not all the wheel bearings failed on that period Volvos. However Volvo did replace free of charge the ones that did for some years.

Interesting Roy, I wasn't aware of that, i know that mine hasn't been done because its had very little done at Volvo (despite being advertised with full main dealer history but thats another story).

I don't think there are any issues...yet...just waiting for the snow to confirm but i feel its hanging over me.

Next on my list is the ATF fluid, i was going to do this myself but Volvo Hereford, Oxford and Redditch have just introduced a new machine that flushes the ATF fluid with the engine running, and the price is really competitive, not much more than i could buy the fluid for! Just need to wait for Redditch to come back on line as thats nearest to me. Mine is brown so i need to get it done.

The ATF should be changed every 48k or 4 years. The filter is felt and when it gets clogged up it's a strip down job to replace so it needs all the help it can get because the oilways in the valve body are very fine and easily blocked.

Definately going to get it done or do it myself, just can't seem to book it in anywhere before January.

I haven't had much faith in many of the main dealers i have spoken to (other than the ones with the machines) they just seem to want to drain and refill the transmission fluid and don't seem to know anything about flushing or even resetting the counter.

It almost makes me want to send them the VIDA procedure and say can you doi it in accordance with Volvo's instructions, but that would just be wrong.

Still contemplating doing it myself

Default AWD problem

I have a 56/06 plate Ocean Race. Lost rear wheel drive. You could hear the splines trying to engage when rear wheel drive was needed but obviously they had stripped. Volvo dealer completed the repair which involved fitting a service pack that had been developed to remedy the problem. They claimed no knowledge of the extended warranty contribution that Volvo would pay, but having contacted Volvo CS I ended up paying only £190 as the car at the time had slightly over 50k miles.

Good to know that they contributed.

Just waiting for some snow to see if ours is working or not, doubt we will get anything though as the car has done 112K miles and is over 6 years old

What would the bill have been without the contribution?

About double.

The opportunity arose to test the AWD system on our 47k '03 T6 Last night...We had to drag a trailer of chopped wood up a steep muddy track....she handled it without issue.

Her previous owner had the sleeve replaced as the fault with it come to light during the first lot of snow a couple of years back...Am I right in assuming the replaced sleeve will last a lot longer?

The T6 dosn't have the sleeve, it's chain driven so I don't see how the previous owner could replace something that was never there.

That's a relief then
I can only go on what the previous owner told me (that the AWD system wasn't working during the first lot of snow, and that they had it repaired by a Volvo Dealers, I wrongly assumed they were referring to the Sleeve)....We've only had her a couple of weeks.
I'll have a look through the receipts when I get home tonight.

Cheers Roy.

So all We've got to worry about are the potential Gearbox problems?
