Smile DIM repair

I have a V70 D5 52 plate with 165K. I tried re-soldering and fiddling around with wires etc. The soldering worked the first time, but it failed again after about a month. I eventually took it to BBA-Reman Rochester 01634 687222 (Thanks to another forum member) Cost me £175 plus postage. with a two year warranty. They changed all the chips and the lamps! I thoroughly recommend them.

thats not bad at all then, main stealer quoted about £750-800 to fix it. He said you have to change the whole cluster as he couldn't find a seperate unit for the DIM

Marcel, its a single layer board. Im going to have another go at mine this weekend. If I have no luck can you look at it if I drop it in. I would need it back the same day as I cant be without the car. My GF lives off Woodbridge Rd.

OK I give up.

Had the dash out again today and cleaned off all the blue gunk from all the IC's and resoldered everything. Put the dash back in and nothing worked. Re soldered it all again and again and again.

I now have most things works, inc the indicators which havent worked for ages. But I now have the SRS warning up which is new and no mileage display which it never had before.

Next step is to send the dash off somewhere, problem is I need the car every day. Does anyone know a company that does and exchange service?

Marcel are you out there ?

I picked up my first Volvo yesterday, a 52 plate V70 SE D5 auto.

I paid the deposit for it over a week ago and bought it from the dealer knowing the clocks were playing up. Apparently they could not repair them so swapped out the clocks from a 54plate car. All works perfectly.

I got the impression that sometimes you jut cannot fix them, no matter what. So, the other option is to source clocks from a newer car that's being broken.

Just to add the auto electrician is coming round next week to adjust the mileage back. It's had a bit of a haircut.

Can't fault these cars, I've had 2 E39 tourings a Saab 95 Aero estate and recently an Alfa 156 sportwagon. Apart from the sedate, but reassuring, handling it is the most supremely capable thing I have ever owned. I've had 22 cars so far and none have impressed me as much as this, In terms of what it was designed to do anyway.

Having now driven the car circa 500 miles since Saturday the DIM as not done the reset (on / off) fault, the indicators work fine and the infoemation dispaly is working fine.

The mileage display is there but very very faint, you have to look really hard to see it at all and I have a SRS fault up. Any idea where on the DIM I need to solder to fix these faults?

perhaps it is just the illumination bulb gone for the mileage display .. SRS light will need resetting if you have taken the DIM out with the battery connected ..
