Hi All,
I have just bought an Autel EU702 which has worked a treat. Got the codes read off and deleated no problem and its easy to use. Not cheap at £130. If your in Manchester and want your car codes read get in touch, i am sure we can come to an arrangement. I bought mine because volvo wanted £125 to do the same thing!!!!! Well worth the investment in my view. Deciphering exactly what the codes mean is the next issue. Cheers Eric

If anyone has an EU702, then Sealey do their own badged version of the 702, 703, 704's etc.
The software is available from their website.
You can then use your 702 with this software to access more vehicles.
Unfortunately, they're still on V1.0 for Volvo.

Has anyone bought one of the MVCI readers such as this

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MVCI-TOYOT...item336fc29986

They seem to be a little cheaper than the DICE units and are compatible with other vehicles?

Hi, I bought 2 code readers from ebay about 3 months ago to read my 2001 V70 T5 .
I've also read my in-laws 2002 vauxhall Zafira and a 1999 VW Golf.
It the Elm unit installs on any Win XP, Vista or Win 7 based PC or laptop and comes complete with various pieces of software.

Can't fault them at all.

Stand alone unit-

I realise the thread is a bit old but can you let me know where I can get an Autel EU702 for £95?

(Think I may have the exact same model and year as you so guess it will work!)

I have a 2011 XC90 and a computer that runs Vista with no access to XP. Having read this thread I am totally unsure which, if any, of the discussed devices will work with my car (some say up to 2008 etc) and what some devices will allow me to do that others do not. Given the enormous price range I guess something pretty useful.

Would someone please be kind enough to give a beginners guide to these things.

At the moment my car is under warranty but I am interested to know what fault codes are present - if any - before it goes into service & as I will be keeing it beyond the warranty period I will eventually need one anyway.

You can install VMware Player on Vista (http://www.vmware.com/products/player/)

Think of this like a virtual computer that operates within your computer. You can load pretty much any operating system and its just like you are using a computer with that operating system directly.

So, with VMWare player installed you can install XP professional service pack 3and then load whatever software you like.

As you are talking about using a computer i take it you are contemplating installing Vida which comes with the DICE and MVCI devices purchased on ebay and generally from China, however, you should be aware that these are not licenced copies, they generally have a patch to allow them to work and it is for you to decide your thoughts on this. They also (generally) require Windows XP Professional Service pack 3.

These Dice/MVCI units should work with your vehicle and will read codes from all of your cars modules.

Another unit to consider is the BSR PPC diagnostic unit which also reads the codes from all of your cars modules, but these are only available second hand now

The Autel and ELM units, i believe, will only read codes from some of the modules.

Thats a bit of an introduction/begginers guide.

I think the PPC diagnostic might be the most suitable, then post your codes on the forum

The latest Autel EU702 states it covers "Volvo 2001 - 2008".

My XC90 was registered IN 2008 ( June ) so I enquired with Autel to see if it would work on my car.

Unfortunately their reply was, "It's really hard to say !"

Does anyone know what the change was in 2008 that might prevent this device from working on Volvo's built after 2008 ?

As far as I am aware there were no model changes on the XC90 during 2008 ???

Anyone used / using one on an XC90 2008 model that can offer any advice ?

( Tempting fate I know - I don't actually need one of these as I am currently "error free",
but I am considering buying one as I intend to keep the car as long as I can ! ).
