Smile Weak V50 headlights

Please ignore my last thread.

It was meant to read that my ability to see at night has returned. That's what happens when the kids distract you as you type.

The Halford Ultra Brilliance 120% whiter/brighter lights are EXCELLENT

Default poor headlights v50

Interested to find other people with same experience of v50 headlamps (dipped) as me. Don't think mine were bad from the start on my late 2009 versiong. So will try the cleaning exercise suggested by other posts. To me, "better" bulbs have made no difference which suggests an age thing ie the cleaning exercise.
Cut off of the beam is ludicrously short. Spread is OK as far as the beam goes... But on M-way I look at other cars and they seem much better. Single carriageway road in darkness or rain is .... Unpleasant. Anything coming towards you just swamps you in light.
Country road in darkness or rain is dangerous, although beam spread OK it's negated by the fact you can't see far enough in front for the spread to be useful. I reckon the lights on my kids' W-reg 2000 Micra are better. Full beam is brilliant though on v50 but really shouldn't be needed so much glad there are no elks where I live.....

A couple of weeks ago I had mine adjusted to the maximum permissible height and it has made a big difference to the lights.

Roads where I was previously limited to 40 mph are now possible to run with the traffic. Lights now much closer to those on our Focus, so a vast improvement.

I use Philips X-treme Vision bulbs too and am approaching the darker nights with much more confidence than last year.

Yupp, check lenses. They may by covered with milky dust which blocks light. I had exactly the very same problem. Once cleaned and fitted with Ring xenon ultima the difference is huge.
I can't say I have best lights on the m-way as I often see other cars with more light in front of them (not to mention xenons) but I'm happy with them now.

I find my lights are quite good, although my car used to be an emergency vehicle and when plugged into VIDA it lists my lights as POLICE - ASYMMETRIC PATTERN.

I'd be interested to hear how long they last for you. I tried them for a while and they never lasted longer than about 2 or 3 months. Osram Nightbreaker Plus are about 9-12 months in my car by comparison.

Just ordered some of the Ring Xenon Ultima 120%, recommended on another thread. Be interesting to see what effect they have and how long they last.

Interesting read of some many people with poor head lights. I too have poor lights, I have a 2005 s40, with the black back rather than the chrome. I'm going to be stripping my lights down very soon so I will give them a clean up. I was thinking of getting some night breakers as I'm not really sure what other options I have with It being a standard bulb. Was thinking of hids but not so sure what to do.
