Yeh you can garantee if it wasnt there something would be said and vice versa lol.
We mentioned about how to check the amout of smoke and psi when tuning with both manual and auto boxes in a previous post and it was asked if my auto box was PRND4321 or PRND321, well its actualy PRND3L. Which box does this mean i have and is it still the same when it comes to checking performance and peak psi.

Tricky to prove if a cart was fitted originally, especially on cars around the time of changeovers. Most decent garages will be lenient though in areas like that.

If they're not, you're probably getting shafted elsewhere as well if they're that strict!

Weird that, when i click on it the price is at £1650 but in the list it does say £5100. Either price is ridiculous for one of these though.

Im just about to pull the turbo + front section of exhaust as my boost issues have become worse.

Just did a 300 mile a road trip, normally would be fine, manage about 55mpg and fly up the hills.
Nope.
35-45mpg, no power, it would boost but only upto around 7-10psi and 4k rpm, no smoke (which is the odd part).
This is with BCS and pipework as stock.
Just checked pump timing, its -0.1 to -0.3 fluctuating (normal)
Cam belt is tight too, no slack.

On motorway it drives OK for about 2 miles, then starts struggling a little, not a lot, just enough to be noticable, the MPG figures start tumbling and engine is audiably labouring to maintain 70mph on a flat road (shouldn't be!).

I suspect a partially blocked cat (poss due to my usage of biodiesel over the past year) and/or a cracked/faulty wastegate.

Other thing thats happening is vacuum pump is not doing so good, its not making any noises. Coasting up a stop most times now the engine is running lumpy as hell, no brake assistance and trying to stall. Wondering if the vac pump has given up the ghost or the pin that sits between the pump and the camshaft is bent/ worn (was OK after a clean 3 months ago).

Could a failing vacuum pump contribute to lack of boost?

I tested the wastegate by blocking off both sides of the stainless pipe that run to the backside of the turbo, in a healthy turbo this should make it boost to infinity (yes?), on mine it takes forever to get to 10psi, then quickly leaps upto 14psi but then trails off again after 3500rpm.

Make sense for me to yank exhaust + turbo and inspect it? I know doing this I'll be gaining at least one sheared stud

I think you have a fuel issue not boost issue. If your not getting enough fuel in then you are gonna get reduced/ poor boost. Is your Maf good?

MAF is good as in not producing fault codes and not running like a car with a duff MAF, but certainly worth trying it with a known good unit (they are the same part # as the petrol turbo models?).

I did try letting the tension on the flapper down a few clicks and it made a bit of difference at the bottom end, almost saw some smoke!

Other thing is fuel filter, it was replaced 8k miles ago at last service (june'14) with genuine volvo (and oil and air), but I've been all over eastern europe and running veg and bio diesel, so every chance its had some fowl fuel dragged through it.
I drained a bit off the bottom outlet just incase there was any water, smelt and felt like diesel but couldn't hurt to leak it off anyway.

No Maf is different to petrol models. It could be the fuel filter, I do mine every 4k. Fuel starvation would explain a lot of your symptoms, the turbo and it's control on these is so simple it can't really go wrong so I wouldn't worry about taking it apart.
