The Taycan has got a reliability reputation as does the Tesla but it’s like any motors…. There’s good and bad. One of my customers had a Taycan and it was trouble free for the two years he owned it.

I think as with any new technology there will be teething problems, but it also worth remembering that many new cars are back and forth to the dealers in rhein first 18 months or so, and sometimes throughout their useful life, regardless of their method of propulsion.

Perhaps this is a question thst needs exploring, is this built in complexity really required. Even the most basic of cars has innumerable moving parts and some of the expensive ones are likely some of the most complex machines we have ever made.

You'll find that anyone who bought anything whatever the cost will try to justify it rather than tell it how it is, it's a human flaw and there aren't many people about who buck this trend, I had it done to me years ago when I foolishly asked how economic a modern V6 was and believed the tool which led to 2.5 years of a fuel bill I hadn't expected. It's a bit like the reviews you see online, somebody always has to tell you how great something is after owning it for 90 minutes.

I suspect people who are interested in cars and have researched EVs are likely to enjoy them, especially the extra performance.

People who get them as a cheap tax company car or just because they can thinking they can use them in the same way as their previous petrol/diesel car are the ones likely to be disappointed with the experience.

Conversely, I find the Internet forums full of people complaining about failures of everything from food blenders to Ferraris. These who have painless experiences rarely bother going online!

True.

However! many will lead another down the hole rather than speak up and feel sheepish about having bought something that didn't live up to expectations.

I had a 1994 3.0 V6 petrol shogun. I loved the car, but spares were ridiculously expensive and I averaged around 18 mpg. Certainly wouldn’t want be running one with the current fuel prices.

Maybe, but on the other hand they could be telling the truth and enjoy them. Especially the ones who have bought another one.

A mate had a 91 LWB and yes what a vehicle, blue over silver, still a better looker than anything they've released since, like a Japanese Land Rover timeless and up to task.

"Last year was the worst for new charge point installations since 2020, according to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), with the speed of rollout slowing as the year went on.

Only one charger was installed for every 62 new plug-in hybrid and battery-powered cars sold in the last three months of the year, SMMT said. The ratio is likely to fall further as sales of plug-in cars accelerate.

The industry body expects battery-powered cars and hybrid plug-ins to reach one in four sales this year and almost one in three next year.

SMMT urged the Government to mandate charger installation targets to provide certainty for drivers switching to electric vehicles."
