Hi again, the weather has cooled down here and I haven't Had the 140 out but ran it stationary in garage. Fitted new bottle cap and ran the engine with the heater full on.I started with the bottle on the min' and it didn't overflow. I also ran it for a short time with the cap off to allow any air which might be there to escape. I will top it up to max and see what happens. In the mean time I was thinking about fitting an electric fan, one the stayed on after switching off untill the temp' fell. Any coments or sugestions. Would a viscous fan do that? I' not sure if it would.

I wouldn't top it up to the max when cold; the coolant has to go somewhere when it gets hot and expands..

Viscous-coupled fan only turns when the engine is running.

The fan shroud is the black plastic part immediately behind the radiator. Does yours not have that?

I'm not a 140 expert I'm afraid - maybe someone else can assist with your question. I can tell you that my 1969 164 had a fan shroud, but of course that doesn't prove yours should have one. John |

Well, so far I have run the car with the heater full on, stationary and in open garage, Also fitted new cap to bottle. It will overflow after running about 10 min's only when I switch it off. I am now running it with the bottle filled only to just above min' and It's a lot better. I think that it could really do with a larger expansion space in the bottle. I'm still wondering about the 10 lb cap. Thinking about it it would only raise the boiling off point but they seem to be fitted to later cars My handbook states 10lb for B20 I would love to have a definitave answer to that. Thank's for all your input

I'm going to flush rad and then fit a new 'stat. See if that improves things.

Up date. Fitted 82c thermostat plus 10 psi bottle and cap. Seems to have solved the problem. Will replace all hoses in near future to allow for higher pressure in system.
