Ah well, it's back from its "fix", it's pouring rain and guess what... the water's still coming in

The garage are phoning Volvo as I write this, so we'll see what that brings. In fairness, they seem to have done a good job replacing the roof-lining. They've put on new hinges (significantly - a different part number to the old ones) and put on a long rubber strip, similar to the one I used.

But it's fair to say I'm not a happy chappy.

Default water in boot

Since collecting it yesterday, driven my new XC70 D5 AWD for ~100mi through a deluge of rain and did not find signs of water ingress in the tailgate section...

The grommet in the middle of the tailgate won't be secured at the rear most edge it's a common fault mate we see at least two a month!! It's very difficult to actually see but I can be almost certain that's where it is coming in!!

Hi Unreal Master Tech,

Do you mean the grommet in the tailgate for the rear washer pipe?

Brian

PS Glad yours is OK x70jwo

Sorry to hear about your issue, hope latest posts will resolve it. Mine now driven 500 mi, through more rain + semi-flooded A57 across the Snake Pass...still OK fingers crossed.

Thanks x70jwo
It's not looking too clever at the moment. Car was in two days last week. They discovered a fault in the roof seam under the right roof-bar. Repaired that and said they were sure that that was the problem. HOWEVER, the following day I washed the car and it's still leaking.
So, it's back again tomorrow. Volvo starting to really get involved now as everyone's running out of ideas.

After 1,000 mi in rain & hosing down, mine still good. How about the roof "blob" (aerial, has a seal) and/or roof rails fixtures?

Thumbs up

Hi everyone

On the last visit they stripped the roof-lining out again and checked over the whole roof. They discovered about an inch of roof seam that wasn't sealed properly at the back off-side corner.

Happy to say car is now waterproof! Now able to enjoy driving the car, which we love.

x70jwo - Glad yours is still ok, I guess if your car had the same fault as ours, it would have shown up by now. Happy motoring!

Cheers Brian

For the second time in the last month I appear to be having a similar problem and was wondering if there is any new information on the problem.

2012 XC70 R design

Heavy rain or car wash results in water inside rear floor. Fortunately the lower edge of the tailgate hatch, when closed, the carpet trim (soaking wet) overlaps the rubber floor cover. The water (a fair amount) appears to drip from the carpet trim on the tailgate down to the cover (about an inch drop) Everything below the rubber mat is dry (carpet, deck panel, spare tire, body panel floor)

Interesting possible collateral damage, the rear tailgate hatch is now intermittently failing to full close the hatch (power close system). Hatch closes to initial latch capture, but does not do final "tighten and clasp". My guess that the water building up in the tailgate hatch is affecting a sensor or the latching mechanism.

Have a dealer appointment in a couple of days... I wish I had a known TSB or something to tell them, but searching around hasn't revealed one to me.

Will update with the results of the dealer service results

Cheers!
