Doesn't seem to make any difference to sensitivity on my P3.
If it does it's only minor!!

Seems to work on my '12 CX70. I like the wipers super sensitive and I turned the ring to max and now I don't have to wait for a build up of rain on the screen before triggering the wipers.

Works on ours (and our Honda Accord before the V70 - although the auto completely replaced the int on that vehicle).

One thing that makes a huge difference to the behaviour and sensitivity of the auto wipers is the condition of your screen - if you polish it and use a rain repellant so the water beads up tightly then it will be much more sensitive than if the glass is scratched and water lies flat on it.

I've sometimes got confused working out which is max. I recall on some other cars, to shorten the interval between intermittent wiping, a switch needs to be set nearer the smaller sized markers.

But it makes sense for the sensor sensitivity if turning the ring towards the larger sized markers means more sensitivity.

Presumably the on board computer records and stores both these settings independently ?

No storage needed - if you are on auto wipers it reads the position of the ring and uses that as the sensitivity. If you are on int wipers it reads the position of the ring and uses that as the speed. If you adjust the ring when in one mode then it will impact the other mode if you switch to it.

You turn the ring in the same direction to make it wipe more frequently. So the thin line, indicating short time interval, also implies high sensitivity, as that normally also gives a shorter interval.

Well that is exactly the opposite to my '12 XC70 D5. The most sensitive rain setting on mine is the thicker end of the line which is the upper end of the clockwise wheel travel. If it's set to the thick end, if there's any rain at all, the wipers go to continuous almost immediately. If it's set to the thin end, turned downwards anti-clockwise, they wipe once and wait for the same amount of rain to accumulate before wiping again.

I value discovering this feature and didn't think to look for it in the manual because my last rain sensitive car needed the plug-in diagnostics to alter the sensitivity! Anyway, real men never read the instructions!
