Older hoses are breaking down and loose boost and leak since I put mine on the boost is now stabilised and a little higher due to the old ones being soft.

The originals will corrode over time and that's not just the boost ones, the coolant ones too - it'll be a sad day when your shiny new engine dumps all its coolant and you fry the head gasket.

How much play have you got with the pistons if you try moving them within their bore, the old 2,5 lump out of my car at 156K had large amounts of movement on three of the pistons and the rings were shot leading to high crankcase pressure (blow-by gas), I would try a compression test before you strip the engine and see what you are dealing with prior to taking it to bits.

If you do strip the engine fully make sure you clean out the oil return port to the sump from the PCV as these block up with carbon and cannot be cleaned with the sump attached to the engine, at the same time change the "O" rings that feed the oil pump as they only cost a few pence.
