Just thought I'd add my 2 penneth as I have tried changing the Lambda on my 3 litre last year. Have you got an OEM Volvo sensor or GSF/Europarts compatible part?
Apparently the aftermarket versions where you have to crimp/solder can introduce too much resistance into the cicuit and the car will often reject them. Happened on mine so had to buy the Volvo part (at 3 times the cost) but lost 6 hours work. Volvo part does at least come with full length cable and connector fitted so really quick changeover time. I managed to get a modified open ended spanner onto my sensor with exhasut in place. Good luck

If you had gone to Bosch you would have been given an identical unit for much less money. Bosch are the makers of the Volvo item.

All the best, Peter.

Try Welsh Autofactors, everything Bosch is half the price of the same Volvo item.

All the best, Peter.

Still have,nt got around to changing the sensor due having the flu.
Gman - I would be very interested in where you got the special spanner for removing sensor without dropping the front pipes.

The replacement sensor I have is a volvo original so do not anticipate any problems after fitting.

Regards

Think I used either the big Rolson water-pump pliers or my slimmer Barco ones (both a bit unethical, but needs must).
I could have been lucky with the angles etc but I remember it was not cranked up too tight in the first place.
I'm talking about the sensor on the exhaust under the drivers seat by the way....

You can get 'open' ring spanners which allow the spanner to go over a cable-ended item like the lambda and they are offset for a job like this but you might have to buy Speedline(Halfords) or Tenko or Snap-on etc.
Hope it helps.

Just been out to the car to check and I think I used a closed ringer as I had a cut & splice replacement to put on therefore could feed the wires through the ringer. Hmmm, you might have to splash out then....

G-doh!

P.S
pleased to hear you're on the mend - bad time to get the flu dude :-(
