Could be all those things listed above. Sirens and MMS are common. If you do have. Newer model providing the cause of the alarm is the mms. which vida can tell. then they ahould change the mms to an ims!

Hmmm. Reading this with interest as I'm having the same problem right now. First we got "Alarm system service required" in the display, then within a couple of days the alarm began going off for no reason. We booked it in to be checked out by our local specialist but my wife was ill and we couldn't take it that day.
Right now we're just locking the door on the key. Rapidly falling out with this car which has already had £300 thrown at it in the last month. I'll keep you posted! |

My alarm is a bit odd in that it goes off occasionally at my daughters in Staplecross but never anywhere else. Hastings and Battle are fine though and dosn't go off there. Can other signals set it off? I belive the sensitivity can be altered with VIDA. Anyone done that?

XC90 alarm going off
I have a 2006 XC90. Alarm had been going off on a regular basis each night. Dealership diagnosed it as a permanent error with the mass movement sensor. Replaced the mass movement sensor at a cost of $400+ CDN. Alarm is still going off. At first thought it was due to wind when it was parked outside but it went off twice tonight in our garage. It does not go off if I turn off the motion sensor (mass movement sensor) so I'm pretty sure it has nothing to do with the battery. Back to the dealership in the next few days. I'll see what else they find.

The phrase "Mass Movement sensor" seems to cause some confusion -
in that it could be interpreted that it senses the movement of mass inside the car, such as when a window is broken and someone leans inside, or it could be interpreted as a device that senses the movement of the mass of the whole car, such as when being jacked up or dragged onto the back of a trailer. AFAIK the Interior cabin movement sensor is the" Mass Movement sensor", but some models do also have a Tilt Sensor, which senses the movement of the whole car. Operating the internal switch will disable the Internal Mass Movement Sensor, and the Tilt Sensor if fitted. Spiders under the plastic trim housing the Internal Movement sensors are common causes of "false" alarms !

Have also had a day recently (5 weeks ago), where the alarm went off without explanation.
We had taken a trip to the south-coast, so car was full of luggage. Also left a tablet in the car (an Ipad competitor - Android, as I am not an Apple fan) in the car...... Hasnt done it since.......will try and experiment and leave the tablet in the car tomorrow......... Thanks for all the ideas, this now has me intrigued. |

Well we took ours into the local Volvo independent where they read the computer which reported "Siren Communication". They reset it and it hasn't done it since. So cheap fix, just the plug-in diagnostic charge.

My alarm goes off when I park at my daughters in Staplecross, East Sussex. Not for any obvious reason and only does it once. Dosn't do it at home or anywhere else. It's always done it, not something new. It seems to relate more to the length of time after it's parked more than anything else I think.
