Sounds like the hot idle only sound that my 1.9D made when the Aux belt tensioner bearing started to fail.

Try removing the Aux belt (Just one bolt on the tensioner) to see if it stops.

If it does not, then check the manifold or the downpipe is not loose. If not it might be the oil is too thin or needs changing, but if you are not lucky, the cam belt tensioner or water pump bearing is bad.

The idler pulley might also need changing if the Aux belt tensioner is forked, although mine was only slightly worn.

Then just refit the actuator with the metal between that and the valve.

Carb cleaner into the manifold really helped response and low down acceleration. Just don't use the accelerator for a few minutes after starting and direct it to sound horrible as things burn off and move through.
It's a diesel, so never spray Carb cleaner into it. Even using starter fluid is Iffy for the head gsket.

Blanking the EGR invalidates the insurance (It's definede as an engine mod) and if the engine does not rattle when the EGR is unplugged, then it's not the EGR
unless some plonker forgot to tighten the bolts.

Not sure, but if it only makes that type of noise at hot idle and you can't make the secondary rattle go away or get worse by moving the clutch, turning the steering wheel a few times, pumping the brakes, AC on/off or suddenly loading up on Amps, it might be the Aux belt tensioner (Bit of a wild guess) bearing, as it's heat dependent.
If it's a cold idle secondary rattle, the alternator free wheel clutch can make a similar sound.

Obviously try checking for other things that might rattle, like an exhaust system part, but if you can't find it, remove the Aux belt (Not difficult as I think it only has a main mounting bolt) to see if that stops it. If it does, then check all the items on that belt, if not then it might main block or a cam belt service item.

If the Aux belt fails at high revs, it can move across and break the cam belt, which will be game over until you rob a bank etc.

PS: Check the oil level and quality, although it does not sound like an oil filter bypass valve failure (Tends to be a cold start only rattle). Very unlikely unless you use non gen Volvo or TUV certified oil filters (Bosch or Mann made in Germany).

PPS: Got an engine steth or long ear fitting screwdriver ??
