Had a Gates water pump fitted to my D5 when i 1st got it in 2016, still going strong 8 years later so probably just as good as a "genuine" Volvo pump that is more than likely made in India or somewhere similar.

I believe Aisin is the OE manufacturer.

Is there any evidence of the pump actually failing or is there only a leak? It could just be that the excess pressure you had in the cooling system during the last issue has blown the gasket. Same length of job but a much cheaper part.

The pump was leaking from the centre shaft at first it couldn’t be seen as it was a slow drip and water was catching on the undertray and not on the floor as time went on the drips became more and more and water was seen on the floor in the pumps general area which you could then see it pouring out Done now but top hose still feels quite hard not to bad but still there |

Er on my D5 I have never changed a water pump. Used to on the 850 Tdi. Are they a weak point Clan? These are busting the 220K miles.

The 850 TDI Is VW so its their quality you have, Water pumps were no particular problem on the 850 Diesel though.. The D5 pumps are the best quality you will get, I have never come across a faulty one in my daily life working on them since before they were launched on the 960 in 1990 .
