I fixed this a while ago but didn't want to tempt fate by posting the reply! I should be safe now, it's covered over 1000 miles and hasn't rattled. Bliss.
It was the exhaust mount on the gearbox. The exhaust itself is a Kwik Fit job and not particularly well made - the 2 into 1 section has a clamp welded top and bottom, and each plate has a hole in it. The hole in the top half of the clamp has a bolt in it, which attaches to an L shaped bracket which then is bolted to the gearbox. The exhaust to L bracket bolt was not loose, but if loosened could potentially hit all sorts of other things. I decided to elongate the hole, pad it out with a couple of penny washers, then clamp it all together with some serious (two grunts and a fart) torque. If anybody is interested then I'll post a photo, because that description is rubbish! Thanks for all the help. David |
