The other reason to get rid of the oil cooler in the radiator is when it leaks the pressurised engine coolant gets in to the gearbox ATF which will distroy the box in a very short time.
I would look at fitting an additional cooler and not retaining the existing unit in the main radiator, fit a standalone cooler as they don't cost too much - Mike

I would imagine the chances of that happening would be quite slim mike as the radiator would have to leak and also the ATF cooler that runs through the bottom, but it would eliminate that possibility,
Also I do bypass the standard cooler and connect the pipes to the standalone then mount it at the front to catch as much air as possible.

the cooling sytem in my Carlton may have been inefficient in the first place and fitting a new radiator may have kept the running temp down, but weighing up the hassle and cost I had with that, to the few pounds and bit of effort to fit one I think my mind is made up.

Sorry if I sound like I have asked for opinions only to ignor them, it's just in discussing this has reminded me of the problems,

Just have to find out what ATF to use and if there is a filter to change now lol

i have a local second hand parts dealer who specialises in swedish/german,
went there today for a towbar for my v70,
I loosened all the bolts off and realised i need to remove the bumper to get at the threaded plates inside the box section but one of the two bumper bolts is rounded off, i only got there a half hour before they closed so i will have to remove it tomorow, also need to take a drill to remove the 6 pop rivets in the wheel arches,
it has twin electrics but the grey plug has been damaged so i will remove that as i never bother with it anyway,

£30 for the lot ,not bad, have to remove it myself but it gets me out of the house on my days off lol

The last two autos I had I fitted a seperate oil cooler,

also I want to change the ATF fluid , I read there are no filters to change , is this correct ?
Also what fluid to use ? ,,,, v70 , 2ltr , 1998

thanks, any feedback apreciated .
I tow a Swift Challenger 530 4 berth 1535kg with both V70's that I've owned, a 98 classic 2.5 auto petrol 147 bhp and now I have a 2004 2.5t geartronic 210 bhp and I've had no trouble at all and no additional cooler is required unless you are going to abnormal hot weather conditions

good towing

towbar is fitted and wired and ATF changed, I am going to bite the bullet and give it a go without an additional oil cooler . I have seen the volvo advice but my concern is the fact that my vehicle is 13 year old where as yours hasnt yet burnt the sticker off the original exhaust lol
still there seems to be plenty of peeps towing with the same age or older than mine so i will keep an eye on things and change the engine and atf regularly (i do anyway)

by the way westyman , what mx5 do you have ? mine is a mk1 1.8 s with 30,000 mile

I wouldnt worry about it with the volvos they great tow cars.

Vauxhalls where renown for overheating when towing especially the carltons and senator autos.

fords were worse, my father bought a granada auto and left half the gearbox on the motorway lol , the vauxhall apparently had a good gearbox and the ford was rubbish as i was told back then from people in the motor trade, funnily i had a rover sd1 auto when i was about 20 - 21 and even with its renowned lack of reliability i borrowed my parents caravan and towed it up and down wales with my then fiancee for a dirty weekend hahaha , i dont know if it even had a atf oil cooler fitted but it didnt miss a beat

My husband and I have a 2007 volvo xc70.
We have recently been looking into purchasing a camper trailer (within the towing limits).
One RV dealer is telling us he can put a trailer hitch on it, but reccommends CUSTOM HITCH with weight distribution & sway control.
Another dealer is telling us we cannot get a hitch for our car. Is this correct?
What type of hitch system do you have installed? Have you had an issues?
Advice please

I have replied to your query on another thread, but in case you have missed it I will repeat it here.
