The catch part is very prone to sticking , just take off the catch and free the part the cable fits to with some releasing oil then lubricate with engine oil ..

And if it is the cable and/or mech sticking, be careful when you try and free it up, otherwise you'll most likely end up with the more common problem of the cable snapping and not being able to open the bonnet at all....!
Best of luck |

This thread is just what I've been looking for; mine has done exactly the same, I popped the bonnet to take a peak and it would only relatch after much sodding about. Thanks for the tips chaps!

I fixed ours
Hi all, Had this problem recently on my sons mk1 V40. If you remove the plastic inner wing, cowling thing, with your offside wheel removed you'll probably find the bonnet pull outer cable has rusted through just where the cable kinks round the headlamp area leaving the inner cable also rusted and sticking.
You can bodge repair it with a tandem pushbike inner brake cable and a solderless nipple and some grease and tape for little cost or you can do it properly with an expensive shiny new cable from Volvo. Hope this helps p.s. I did it the cheap bodge way and works fine now. mick. |
