That really looks nasty... not something any of us want to see! It's surprising what a picture does to get your arsh out the chair to make the time to go and check!

mine came apart as well.... i opened it up and only found a 2 inch strip of the friction material just loosely rumbling around inside the area..... i took it to volvo weeks before doing this and they said they needed to strip it down etc in order to check it out............... never told me the above might happen! Guess i was lucky. who knows where all the rest of the friction material dissapeared to!

I changed mine today and the friction material had started to come away from the shoe. I lightly pulled on the lifted corner to see how firmly the rest of it was bonded and it broke cleanly off. It was an original Volvo part probably on the car since it was built in '02.
If anyone reading this thread is thinking that it might be a bit of scaremongering (I have to admit I didn't really take it seriously until I saw the pics posted on this thread), do yourself a favour and get it checked!!. |

Just Done mine today after seeing this thread. Lining of the lower shoes were detached and floating about in the bottom of the drum! Lucky escape I think. Thanks to RUFE for the parts.
