I did noticed that the car would take a sim card turning it into a personal hotspot. I'm tempted to go down this route as I won't have to worry about connecting it to bluetooth and WiFi for internet.

I find the update process a bit hit and miss. What usually happens is that it takes 3 or 4 journeys to complete the update - it recognises there is an update as soon as I plug the memory stick in, says it is installing it but doesn't complete it. This continues 3 or 4 times until it finally installs. The last few updates have just been the UK. Perservre!

Cheers

Dave

It works really well and is easy to connect tablets too and phones if needed. I find the signal is quite strong due to the aerial connection so pick up of 3 mobile signal is good. You can also take the sim out of the car and use it in 1 of these MiFi router so you have more mobility.

The actual update in the car using a USB stick is ~45 mins for the full Europe update. Others have reported that the NW update takes the same amount of time (strangely).

Downloading the 45GB all-Europe update onto my PC takes 3+ hours on my 40Mbps fibre connection.

Similar time for me to install - 45mins to 60mins for full Europe. not tried subset(s), but as Lexman says, others have reported them taking a similar time

Download of ≈45Gb for me is 45min-60min on 200Mbps Virgin connection

Well plugged in the 64GB usb with the full Europe map and nothing happened
No prompts on screen indicating update has started.

I will have a proper go this weekend as have busy few days. I think I’ve read somewhere that formatting using a MAC helps.

Have you checked that the USB port is actually working okay by putting some mp3 files on a stick and seeing if they'll play via Sensus?

Yes, I have another USB plugged in with music and that works.
Map USB currently plugged in “CarPlay” port which is the port with white markings. I know that port works because I’ve tested CarPlay.

Btw, Volvo state that the storage format for map updates should be FAT32 even although the system can read other formats, eg NTFS, for audio or video playback.
