After reading the OP, it does sound to me like a dodgy DIM. I'm wondering if a previous owner has had problems with the DIM, and maybe not fixed it back in properly. That said, it sounds as though it's still dodgy, and being loose isn't gonna make any difference.

DAFT Question; Is the DIM actually plugged in properly???

The car will work without the DIM in place, but certain things don't work which include central locking.

Hi just picked this up again today, I've not touched the dim at all yet I might take it off today just to see if the connection is loose. The reason I mentioned the cem is only because I saw a comment on a YouTube with similar issues ie central locking failed indicators not working, engine issues and it said it could be the cem. I'm going to get it plugged in tomorrow and hopefully get an answer.

Yes works but no indicators, and you cant turn the head lights off. Main beam doesn't work either if you unplug the DIM.

Gutted, just back from garage, they plugged in dice but it won't even read so Def looks like the DEM has gone! A ball ache to get out then has to be sent to company in London to fix approx £300. Tech said he's done three this year so far, design fault where water gets into the box and corrupts the circuit board.

Well I'm stumped, mechanic took out the CEM but straight away said it was the latter model that did not suffer the water damage and sure enough no sign of water. But still the same problem so he swapped some wires over to make short circuit then just put everything back together and hey presto it was all working again. He didn't really know what the issue was and put it down to a glitch. So that was three weeks ago but Tuesday in the heat wave we where driving down the m4 and warning sign saying left for open popped up even though all doors where shut and centrally locked, then the cruise control disengaged and the great box started banging like it wasn't getting the signal. Towed back home and holiday ruined,. I read loads of really good reports on the reliability of the mk2 Volvo v70 D5 but to be honest I'm totally f**k off with mine, never again. My mechanic so is a 20yr Volvo tech has no clue what the problem is.

Scratching my head but only other things I can think would be causing this issue is 1 I put a new battery on which was 900amp instead of the 800amp that the book specifys but I did read that the police used to do this on their cars due to heavy use of the electrics whilst car was idle.

2 I went to get the car remapped but was told that they could not do it as it had already been remapped and had a lock code on it! Could that be an issue, maybe a bad remap?

You could have a short in your canbus system which is taking the system down .
could be a idea to unplug each module one at a time then see if it comes back to life when one is removed

Do you have a towbar socket fitted is it damaged ?.

Only had car about two months but yes last owner had tow pack fitted. Thank you for the suggestion I hadn't thought of that, appreciate it. Car going back in to garage next week so I will definitely suggest this to the mech.
