Cheers guys I will change the filter today. The small business I got it from had been using it to carry his diy purchases and it was on fumes when I picked it up so it probably has sucked up all the rubbish at the bottom of the tank.

Just looking on euro car parts as I might as well change the oil and filter and air filter at the same time. It only lists castrol at £70 a bottle before discount.
What oil do you all use?? |

I use ECP for the Oil and fuel filter but always get the MANN filters they are top quality item and not much more. Oil wise, I go against the Volvo recommendation and use a 5w-30 Mobil 1 ESP which works out at £45 with discount using FROSTY80 code but it is available on Ebay for £40 inc postage. No problem at all using this on the last 3 Volvo D5's over many many miles and it seems to keep the DPF happier being a low ash oil

Go Volvo and ask for discount, you'll be surprised how competitive they are on service part prices. Make sure you use OEM on fuel filter. I had a problem with aftermarket seal not sealing and fuel was dripping out. OEM seal was thicker according to my local garage. I'm sure other after market stuff will be good but just check before using.

Totally agree re Main dealer . As for pattern parts again, I agree but am almost certain that Mann Oil filter is exactly the same as the Volvo one. Mann fuel filter fits perfectly as well./ Never fit cheap parts. When I did cambelt and auxiliary belt kits on my previous Volvo's I have always used Genuine Volvo and always received a good discount by asking. I recently priced a battery for my XC90 and the dealer was the cheapest.

The manual says tank should be less than 3/4 full. How much fuel will come out with a 1/2 tank? Not a bad price from ECP with discount though ECP Mann Filter.jpg Thanks everyone I'll post an update once down to half a tank and changed the filter to see if there is any difference. |

Just a heads up, these black plastic filter housings are notoriously tight to remove and you will feel that something is going to break.
I've never broken anything yet but it feels like it will. in addition, I have never lost any diesel other than maybe a drop out of the actual housing. Once you have put the new rubber seal on, smear the threads on the housing with diesel and it will screw together easier. This type of tool makes removal far easier. https://www.ebay.co.uk/i/273805027139?chn=ps
