To many gubbings and whatnots
Hi 93240se thanks for the comments,I have just brought this model and i am quickly getting to grips with the extra whatnots, thanks mainly to articles from this website.this poor car had been neglected by the last owner.tonight i changed the oil! well i think thats what it was(more like black water) I am going to change the filter once i have run the new oil through the system,so hopefully it will clean her out a bit.then change the oil again. I also changed the auto gear oil (looks like the first ever time) black and smelt well burnt!
i put a new carb switch(idle) on today as the original was faulty, still havent quite got it perfect it wanders up and down the rev range a bit?The small breather pipe was blocked and the plastic seperator had a plastic disk flaoting inside it,new items fitted now.took it for a good run tonight and it went very well, still havent had an answer as to the big round cannister inside the nearside inner wing.it must be there for a reason? havent yet got used to using one foot to drive, got back in my van and kept forgetting to change up! I will look into joining the VOC as most of the people seem very friendly.have a safe journey. |

Hi, The large canister is a Carbon canister. There is no maintenance required, except to ensure the pipes are connected to it. It ensures that fuel tank vapours do not escape to atmosphere, but are burnt in the combustion process. There is a roll over valve it it to keep fuel in tank if car rolls over.

a big thank you to all
Well just an update, fixed the fourth gear lockout(faulty relay)fitted the towbar off of me old F reg, forgot just how heavy it was!the wiring caught me out.
i made a note of the wiring as i took it off and when it came to wiring it onto the SE the colours were different"***"**.we were due to leave friday morning and i was still fiddling right up to the last minute.Took the car plus family and old heavy caravan down to weston super mare for a long weekend. i must admit the lack of power 2.0l auto compared to the 2.3 manual took a bit of getting used to as did driving with one foot and pretty much one hand.but no regrets its quite smooth and very responsive(minus caravan)so all is well no dramas. still not quite perfect the idling mainly but next on the ever decreasing list is a fuel filter and new HT leads,by the way has any body happened to be in a pit with engine running and heard the pump/filter making a strange noise like sucking the last drop of juice in a glass through a straw????. SO A BIG THANK YOU FOR ALL THE ADVICE AND HELP FROM MEMBERS AND OLD POSTS,In such a short time the mess of a car is nearly back to "A" 1, |
