This is turning into a nightmare!
My local garage phoned me to say they cannot top up the DPF as my car needs a "software update". After contacting my nearest Volvo dealer quoting my reg plate, they say my car/engine does not require a software update. Further digging with my local non-franchise garage, they tell me there are at least two errors: 1. "Map sensor signal too high" 2. "Control module faulty software, check ECM ...ECM off, 30 tech manual" I'm now about to go pick up my car as they cannot proceed due to the above errors and I've booked my car in for Thursday @ Volvo, costing £79 + VAT simply for a diagnostics check initially. If anyone has any ideas based on the information I've already given, or had similar issues, I'd be grateful to hear from you. Thanks. |

if it is not the "software update" might be the level reset therefore if you do not have VIDA you cannot do it. or the other two you could have 10 reason of why you get the code. |

No, it's not.
Yeah, I believe so, even though I was told otherwise before they began running diagnostics and it came up these error codes. The Volvo dealership told me the same thing, so advised me to take it in and they'll do their own diagnostics. Slightly worrying though, was that they said something along the lines of "it could be £100 or could be a £600 job". I guess we'll find out. |

The frustrating thing is.. the car seems to be running very well. There are no symptoms at all of these error messages or lack of DPF. But I'm obviously worried what long-term or other damage it may be causing.
I've been waiting now since April 30th when I got the service done and was first informed of "DPF top-up required". But I've had to wait on them doing one job at a time and re-booking the car in for other things, until yesterday when they went to tackle the DPF. I won't ever be going back to my local garage again after this, so if anyone knows of any Volvo independent specialist or recommended garage services anywhere, ideally west side of Edinburgh? |

Hopefully this will be the final update to this thread.
Car was at local Volvo dealership. They did the diagnostics as described before and they carried out the following. Eolys additive req. Topped up, erased codes now ok. Customer would be advised to fill fuel tank full to allow successful calibration of additive module. VO1161752 fuel additive £55 labour = £118.50 total incl VAT = £208.20 plus previous total of £505 Grand total since service was done on April 30th = £713.20 On the plus side (if there is one to come from all of this) I did get to drive a very nice new V60 courtesy vehicle today though. Not so sure I'd ever get used to the weird handbrake however. I'll worry another day about the 2 new tyres (£300) I'll need to also get before the MOT in October and pray nothing else goes wrong in the meantime. The "vehicle sounds slow to start" was the final thing mentioned at the time of my service which I cannot see myself. Therefore I've left this for now. |

When you had your car fully serviced in April at the cost of £500+ was this at Volvo or some other garage, was there some other work done too??
I suspect a Full service at Volvo including the EOLYS would have been far less than the overall £700+ that it has ended up costing? |

1. the service (£110) 2. the brake discs and pads all-round (£310) 3. the oil leak, rocker cover gasket (£85) all done at my local garage then, £208.20 at the Volvo dealership Cheapest way I could have had Volvo original brakes would have been to buy them online via this forum and only pay the labour at my local garage. but it was still working out almost £100 more, and knowing I still had more issues going on, I had to settle for OE parts. I don't know how much a service would have been at Volvo, but I'm sure it would be far more than £110 inclusive. Oil leak and replacement of gasket at Volvo, who knows? Again, more than likely costing more than £85 I would have thought. |
