Poly can be made as soft as rubber but is normally best at least slightly harder. Cost wise there is not a massive differnce betwen genuine parts and poly. Aftermarket rubber bushes do not last long enough to be worth bothering with unless you only do very low millage.
I do two ranges of bushes black and red. Most of teh bushes are the same grade but a couple are softer in teh black range. INCreased NVH from poly bushes is normally from incorrect installation or wrongly forumulated/designed bushes. If you want to use as little poly as possible but remove the unreliable bushes just do teh rear top arms, the axle bushes and the front wishbone rear bushes. The rest are not that bad in rubber |

Reading all of this is making me think again - especially if you can get softer ones

Hi all
Many thanks for all the replies. I think I will be going the Polybush route, especially for those troublesome ones as classicswede describes. The main reason for the purchase of my Tank is for towing purposes, so longer lasting and firmer are good for me. ![]()

Having read the HBOL it suggests that the rear of the front lower arm bushes can be replaced without removing the arm. "Just" remove the rear bracket and the big nut along with ARB link and hey presto the bush can be changed.
Is this true??

I've not used Polybushes on my 240 but I have on my Landrover Defender and after a few months they squeak and groan badly, so bad I can hear them above the noise of a diesel....
If you do a quick internet search it seems it is a common problem on various applications. |

My two bob's worth, I've only just replaced sway-bar link bushes and sway-bar bushes (yes I'm an Aussie) with poly a day ago and they were quite challenging to get 'right' in terms of fitment but after cross-threading on of the sway-bar mount bolts and having to re-tap it lying on my back on a gravel driveway in the middle of Winter I'm pretty happy with the result! The link bushes are a completely different shape to the original black rubber versions (mine still had Volvo stamped on them) and had me somewhat perplexed as I thought I had been given the wrong ones but it would seem that the poly ones are engineered quite differently because of their formulation/response etc. Here's a link to the ones I've fitted and another one to the original shape: http://www.superpro.com.au/find/supe...999500072/vid-

Hi all
Having taken advice from here I purchased the rear of front wishbone and the anti tramp bushes from Brookhouse. Today was fitment day. I was quite surprised how all the nuts and bolts gave in and came undone without any dramas. ![]() The only sticky point was the sleeve from the old bush on the NSF wishbone. For that I had to resort to some heat and molegrips. I pressed out the old antitramp rubbers then sawed the metal ring to remove before refitting with the polybush. For the front wishbones I pressed one out only to read the instructions afterwards and realise I needed to keep the outer race of the old rubber bush for the new polybush. Not really a drama as the carrier was OK and pressed in a treat after removing all the old rubber. Time taken - 2.5hrs so I didn't think that was too bad. The two post ramp helped a great deal ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Not a knock or rattle to be heard now. ![]() ![]() I can thoroughly recommend polybushes.

old post but I have question maybe someone will be able to answer. Regarding them poly bushes. Did you had to use bush press to get them fitted. What's the best way to get them press in without press?
Thank you |
