The 1966 Volvo P1800s has a head start, by about 47 years?
If my maths is correct. Just sent an email to Volvo UK PR to ask whether they can assist in any way to get the car to a million miles on its original engine. No expectation. |

Fantastic news to date and Covert thanks for the Telegrapgh article which somebody has rightfully pointed out is factually incorrect. Congratulations for rising to the challenge and best of luck with the MOT and keeping the gal on the road ! |

Damn... Someone bought it!!
I was seriously considering that one myself and I was going to put it to work too, purely for the comedy effect! My current workhorse (850 TDi) has a mere 314k on it. Best of luck with it, get a thread up in the showroom at the top of the main forum page. It looked quite tidy in the advert

IMHO , along with many others, these high mileage but exceedingly well maintained Volvos come along once in blue moon......to be honest, if I'd seen the advert I would most definitely have bought it and explained to SWMBO once again why we had a desperate and absolute need for yet another Volvo on the drive.
So if in a few thousand miles you happen to change your mind about owning/wishing to remain the owner of this particular motor PM me and I'll happily buy it from you for what you've paid for it! Please....

AST,
Thanks for your message. I must confess, I agree with you - the more I drive the car, I am totally amazed by its capability. It looks and drives like a car with a fraction of the mileage. The wife has a 63 reg BMW 320d tourer which we bought for her in Jan, but we already prefer the Viking Long Boat, it's a comfier place to be for starters! I have a contact who runs a Volvo Indy in the New Forest, so will be taking it along for the once over shortly. I'm dreading what he might find, but the car only had one advisory last MOT, and has only done 3k miles since, so fingers crossed... |

Just a mini update - took the car to my grandfathers garage and got the MOT tester (who I have known since I was a pup), to take a look see.
Gave me a small shopping list - a track end rod, anti roll bar, and both inner CV gaitors knackered. Otherwise all good for another year. (I had a pair of propshafts included in the purchase that were in good state). So just had the props fitted, and other items for £250 so should be good for another year. The garage I took it to couldn't believe the condition of the car and how it drove post fixing, and had even had a go at guessing how much the fuel would have cost over its mileage. They reckon nigh on £79k - I haven't bothered even starting that calc - obv a quiet day there today!! Car now running well, and an annoying knock over the bumps / on start off now gone. |

If the car gets more motorway miles you should be able to make it reach the 700k in no time lol.
