[QUOTE=Turbodave;2284067]We tried that but got bored after the first 17 miles and so the 4,200 miles that followed were done with minimal mechanical sympathy including foot to the floor efforts up assorted alps and trying to crack 150mph on the Autobahn... we failed incidentally, 142mph and then got scared.

Ha ha ha !! That almost replicates my own journey of foot to the boards lol.
Although doing that away up the alps.... brave man indeed !
I started getting blue puffs from the turbo at near max speeds lol so backed off and was fine again.
I only really said that as these cars are old now and some bits are bound to be getting iffy and if you take it easy it can be the difference of the car making it or not though.
There an excellent long distance cruiser though especially the T5

I'd never heard of the NC500, just looked it up - interesting route!

I'll be driving my 850 T5 to Skye this winter (so not camping!) for my birthday trip so have been doing some preparations myself, mainly replacing the slipping clutch, replacing some fluids and fixing a few leaks.

Post some pics when you get back

Thanks for all the advice, pictures to follow I'm even thinking of buying a go-pro style cam and doing a time lapse of the journey but mounting a box like that on an otherwise very sleek 850 would completely ruin the aero :-P
If you had gone anti-clockwise you wouldn't have had to go nearly so far to get to Glencoe!

We wanted to do the whole route and spend the last night a little bit further south, hence the stop at Glencoe and the opportunity to see Loch Ness and Ben Nevis

Thanks for the input everyone!

As expected, the 850 did it all without breaking a sweat. 1600 miles in 7 days, we even slept in the back as it was so windy the tent took a bit of a battering. The perfect tool for the job!

I have got some great pictures but for some reason I can't seem to upload them ...
