IMHO those V70's & etc fitted with the under tray are actually somewhat more dirty and can run marginally hotter at sustained high speed or over mountainous terrain (non UK) than those that do not have it fitted....my V70 T5 has the tray ....it holds dust around the engine bay, my V70 Torslanda & C70 do not have the tray - the airflow around the engine removes the dust and keeps the engine bays significantly cleaner......+ when you drop nuts, spanners & sockets etc they fall all the way through and can be recovered from the ground under the car in seconds......unless of course they bounce into the engine mounts, radiator cowl or end up sitting on the front cross member!

Just an update on this; I finally got round to fitting the engine under tray last night.
I used this pattern part from ebay: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/163427558075 £42.99 delivered And used Stainless steel M8 x16mm bolts with large washers to fit it. The tray fitted perfectly and seemed to be made of very good quality plastic. The only minor issue I had was that the two rear mounting bolt holes had corrorded too much for the bolts to screw in, so I just used a couple of cable ties to secure it.

I wouldn't worry much about the rear bolts, my plate has already broken at one of them, it will stay in place even without these, as long as the center bolt is in place. Speaking about bolts, Volvo also has them and they are inexpensive - for once https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VYuCMbtiZaE

or you could splurge and get one of these:
https://www.ipdusa.com/products/1146...124921-8624664 I got one on sale for my 2010 V70. Works great and makes for much easier access for oil changes. Interestingly it did make the engine a tad noisier vs. the felt liner that was on there.

Eg the other day I ran the car at 1500rpm for 15mins while doing an oil flush and the outside temperature was about 22 to 24c. After the above the oil filler cap was quite hot to the touch ie it was almost burning my hand. Is that too hot? This was before I fitted the undertray and with the hood open and the front of the car jacked up.
