It is a Swedish car meeting at the Calne motor museum, on 13th May. Hopefully the museum itself will be open too- they have about 90 cars on display. Jimmy

The latest
Cheers guys,
Comments like these really renew hope. The latest on her is that yesterday I connected some jump leads to see if I could get her started. I didn't manage it but there is a good spark and fuel is getting there so I'm going to try some WD40 today. The good news however, was that everything worked including the AM/FM stereo (which even has the original Kilocycles/Kilohertz conversion sticker for Radio 1 and 2 - which is now Radio 5 Live and Talksport. Back of the net!!). All the lights, wipers, horn etc etc is fine. She's off for MOT very soon so that I can get an idea of what's needed. I'll keep you all posted. I'm delighted that my colour is rare - it does seem original as there is bare metal visible in an uncomfortably large amount of places!! - and I promise to look after her. I'm very excited he he he. I just need to get a battery now. ;-) |

Starting issues
Hi all,
Well I have a lovely new battery thanks to the advice of Amazoncars for £60 but the car still wont start. I have just fitted an in-line fuel filter but I suspect that old fuel is probably to blame so I'm going to replace that with fresh after a nice cup of tea. I have an excellent spark and it's turning over fine. If the filter doesn't work, its off with the air filters and in with the WD40. If that doesn't work, I'm stumped! |

Fingers crossed that fresh fuel will do the trick!

Did it work? I had loads of problems trying to get my 145 going after it had been stood and found the fuel was (mostly) to blame! It seems to go "off" quite quickly these days!

Success. Well Partially!
Hiya,
Yes it fired up dead easily with my best friend spraying WD40 into the air ducts. However, I quickly discovered that the brakes dont work, which might annoy the MOT mechanics. I believe the brake master cylinder is u/s. Now gotta wait until amazon cars reopen on monday for a kit. In-line fuel filter will do the trick with the fuel issue I hope...... |

In my experience the Volvo red block engines are fairly tolerant of old or low octane fuel. A fuel filter may not have much effect. I'm also wary about putting inline filters in the heat of the engine bay- I've moved the filter in one of my cars to the fuel tank end of the pipe, away from the heat. I'm not sure whether there are any rubber pipes you can attach one to up the fuel tank end on a 144 though!
Perhaps take the fuel sender unit off and have a look inside the tank to see if there's any muck in there. |

Sound advice
Ok that sounds like a good idea. It hadn't occurred to me to fit it that end of the fuel line. It seemed to be ticking over quite nicely when it eventually started so maybe it was just down to lack of use. I haven't been around to flash it up again since, but I'll be going down there tomorrow so I'll have a look in the tank then.
