Germany ain't possible to do that, as you need to have a registered address here to register a car. The only possible way would be to get red plates (export) and then drive home - problem is then the duration/expiry. They aren't that long valid...
A Volvo 740/940 would cost you about €1000 with about 12 months TÜV (German MOT). Tax for 3 months (depending on engine) would be first paid for 12 months and after deregistration, will be refunded in the "correct" amount. A 2.3l Volvo with Euro 1 would be at around €370/12 months. So take 3/4 off. A Euro 2 2.3l would be then €170
