Another Halfords user...
5W 40 fully synthetic at halfords - just over £30 for five litres.
1 litre of Magnatec at a petrol station - £10 argh! (but had to do it thanks to enthusiastic use of right foot). That'll teach me to run out of Halfords best... |

i noticed you can get 5l of mobil 1 in france (slightly different spec 5w-40w) for less than the cost of 4l in the UK.

[QUOTE=MIKES T5R;135129]Hi guys,
It starts at £16 a litre retail and is mainly used on the newer vauxhalls,bmws and seats which have longer service intervals.When my customers come in to buy it they are amazed at how much oil they use.The reason is the oil actually burns taking out the crud with it, which is why you need to top it up so often. QUOTE]the oil actualy burns taking the crud with it? ....come on please give us some credit, if your new bmw vw etc has develpoed a thirst for oil its nothing to do with the oil, its a problem with the engine, either rings /guides /seals or the breathing system, any "crud "in the oil is removed by the filter not by burning the oil. as for flushing its a throwback to the dark ages, its just not required when using modern oils Last edited by chow; Aug 14th, 2006 at 11:09. |

if you really think flushing out the small amount of oil thats left in the cooler( i used to drain the cooler when i changed the oil you get about half a cup full out) is going to make any difernce whatsover to the longevity of your engine carry on.

i do less than 4,000 miles per year so no need for me to flush , as the oil is almost like new when changed.

I use Total Activa 7000 10w40 Semi Synth on our two T5's as they're reasonably high mileage now (160k).
I buy it in France for £16.00 for 6 Litres. (What value!) In a lower mileage car I'd put in 5w40 or 5w30. I just bought 7 Litres of 5w30 ACEA A5/B5 approved oil for £16.35
