Hi Kevham. Welcome.
It's NOT difficult....Really. You can do this man!! To give you an idea, now that I've done it a couple of times, I reckon with the tools ready I can get the panel out in under 10 minutes. It's really much easier than it sounds. Just follow the steps I've given above (and you can also look at the FAQ section), and you won't go wrong. The speedo dropping to zero was exactly what mine was doing. It was driving me nuts. I was belting the panel several times a week. I just replaced the panel in the end. A member here had one for sale... Really easy to do, far less hassle, and I also changed all the bulbs in it at the same time. Now got a fully working instrument panel with a lovely bright display.

I can confirm that taking the instruments out is as easy as pie and, as I've said elsewhere, a tweak of the contact screws on the back cured my speedo.
