Certainly looks like a sensible starting point eh
Fingers crossed might just be a nice relatively cheap fix |

Hey Stuart, are you guessing Driveshaft due to that MOT fail notice?

well im no expert in any way but it certainly sounds a bit suspicious
does the record show a pass after that fail? or was that the last entry is it possible for example the owner tried to fit a new gaiter by disassembling the old CV joint and didnt manage to put it back together properly I dunno it seems like you'd probably get it finished off by a pro if you got to that point but who knows. or find a replacement shaft my question would be (if that's the last MOT) how did it get to and from the mot place if the gearbox was knackered. and why would the gearbox suddenly be broken just by being left sitting for a couple of years total guesswork may be completely off base lol Last edited by stuart bowes; Dec 26th, 2021 at 16:31. |

Yes, most of the transmission problems seem to be valve body trouble / flaring / harsh shifting. So this could well be a driveshaft.

That MOT fail is for a CV boot, obviously could mean the joint is knackered too but to lose complete drive because of it seems unlikely. If you snapped both driveshafts far enough, but that again seems very unlikely and will A) Be very obvious to visual inspection and B) make a hell of a racket when you select drive or reverse!

would the shaft need to be 'snapped' though, if like I say there was some sort of botched attempt at a repair and not reinstalled correctly. surely you'd only need one side to not be transferring power to the wheel and nothing would work? I'm assuming these cars don't come with limited slip diffs as standard..
more than happy to be proved totally wrong but it's just something not adding up in my mind like, if there was a serious gearbox issue, why would it even be taken for an MOT and why with a relatively simple point of failure is there no followup pass MOT (And i assume it hasn't been driven since, at least not legally..) presumably you are right though there would be noise wouldn't there. either splines not engaged correctly, or the balls all fell out and rolled away and he just put it back together as best as he could.. or even, drive shaft came apart at the gearbox end when trying to take it out, and that caused a drama, was it even put back in Last edited by stuart bowes; Dec 27th, 2021 at 19:18. |

A totally knackered CV could cause no drive, but it would be absolutely trashed and make a racket. I cant see any other way of not installing a driveshaft properly unless you didn't get either end in the gearbox or hub splines, in which case it would be obvious visually and again make a racket.
