If your first aid kit is old check the contents plus I think it is 1 High Vis for each person in the vehicle

Might want to think about replacing that - You can pick a reasonably decent "pocket" one from any good Outdoors shop (Millets/Blacks/Cotswolds) or a more "house" orientated one from places like Boots. Comes in at under £10, but means you have up-to-date kit if (when) you need it.

Got a 20-person first aid box under my desk and a 10-person pack in my spare wheel well.

Only useful thing I can add is to watch the speed limits like a hawk (especially on your way home!) - they are likely to watch for "foreign" cars coming in/out of the docks in a hurry to catch a ferry/train. Easy pickings for them and you could leave France considerably lighter in the wallet!
And my understanding of the High Vis thing is its 1-per-person and they have to be carried in the cabin of the car.

Another thing, don't attempt to use a speed trap detector in France, the police are red hot on them and use detectors that will tell them that you are using one.

Confiscation and a large fine (payable on the spot)

I'm not sure if it applies to France, but in Spain you can be fined for not indicating when changing lanes (out or in)

Saying that, the motorways between citys are a joy to drive, just watch out for the speed cameras.

On French autoroutes the default limit is 130 kph (82) although it drops to 110 in heavy rain. However, the French seem to regard these as minimums LOL. Tolls are payable on most intercity stretches and are quite high e.g. say £60 Calais to Geneva. But this keeps the autoroutes quiet (apart from this Saturday when the A6 to Lyon will be full of skiers heading for the Alps). Regards.

thanks for all the replies guys, its certainly going to be an experience then, will get another high vis vest off my son (he,s got loads ),up grade the first aid kit,..just got to sort the tax out (end of feb ) then insurance 2nd week in march...was 235 last year but am expecting over 300 this year, but am still waiting for the renewal..had some stonking quotes, but we wont go into that now as you all go through it each year and split your sides laughing... then a good service..oil/oil filter/air filter..plugs are only 6mths old and done about 1500 mile on them..so thanks everyone....

Holiday to France im sorry too many french people for me lol and on top of that the Eiffel tower is a trajic waste of meccano imho :-p

Please be aware of priorite a doit!! Where drivers can pull straight out from the right without looking straight onto the main road!! They love this even in towns and villages. This has caused a few accidents. If the traffic lights are flashing amber proceed with extreme caution.

It's great to drive there though and so quiet. I kept the hi vis jackets in the door pockets. You do need one each. Spare bulb kit as well. First aid kit and warning triangles. GB stickers although I don't know if GB number plates are acceptable.I always stuck a GB sticker on the back window. Good luck!!
