Would more ignition advance help the problem? Or is it more likely to just the spark being blown out?

I've bought an Aldon Flamethrower coil ready for when I up my boost - I agree with previous suggestions that that level of boost (approx 20-22 psi?) is probably affecting your spark. Thats a BIG BIG boost - how are you doing regards pinging?

The ecu work had been done well before the car came to me so I have no idea who had done it. When it first came it was VERY slow but after a bit of driving and pulling the battery off and changing to the current bosch plugs it going a lot better.
as don and bobcat have pointed out, the identity of your "chip" would be most useful
22psi is a lot of boost....
cheers

dunno if its any help but had a missfire on my rica'd 850, spent ages trying to find out what it was, took it on rollers etc. ended up being a small oil leak from the filler cap, it worked its way down to the plugs andmade it hessitate/missfire under full turbo load, cleaned them all up and got a new filler cap and haven't had a single prob for the last 4 months

on that topic a blocked pcv system may well lead to leakage of oil at the oil seperator/camshaft cover pipe connection at the camshaft cover joint, hidden under the "volvo" spark plug cover....thus dropping oil into the spark plug recess'
cheers
