Hi,

If the bulb is blown it may be through age. If when replaced you do find the light on when the engine starts or when applying the brakes then get the codes read as that will point you in the right direction for resolving the fault..

This happened a few years ago on my 960 after replacing the battery. Turned out to be a blown fuse in the box just inside the drivers door.

Angry Volvo garage

I took it to the Volvo "specialist" garage in Grantham and they said that although the light was on, it was an intermittent fault that they couldn't fix and the sensors were fine. That's when I took the bulb out! I guess it must depend on where and who does the MOT!

I went to my nearest Volvo parts dealer, several miles away to get a new ABS bulb in the hope that it going to be an easy fix. Got there and the guy says 'which wattage is it'? There are four different types! Of course i had no idea and had to either buy all four or take the old one out. In the end i decided to do the latter and went back home.

As for checking the ABS fuse. I took this picture of the clutter under the stearing wheel panal. There is a small opening that you are supposed to be able to access the ABS fuse through. No chance! Not on mine anyway. Is that double fuse clip at the lower right what im after?

Also wondered what that black box marked 'Ericson' was ? See lower pic for better view of box.

Hi,

Looks like someone has butchered the wiring to add a mobile phone at some point.
How likely is it they butchered the ABS wiring?

you should be able to remove the bulb by just removing the panel and then being acrobatic and reaching up to behind the cluster and twisting and pulling the bulb out.

Can anyone tell me if those pair of fuses bottom right are the ABS fuse and something else? There is a blue 10 amp and just behind it a purple 7.5 amp ( i think)

Hi,

No! They look wholly alien to a Volvo. Must all do with that black mobile box.

More often than not its a little wire going to the sensor. My mOT station did the decent thing and repaired the wire, charged me £10 and passed it.

Some Googling leads me to believe there are two fuses you should be checking.

The first fuse is located in the main fusebox, behind the ashtray. It is apparently fuse 24 in the diagram below.

There is apparently a second fuse on the ABS unit surge protector. I have found a guide blow describing how to access this.

Quote:
In later cars, this relay is located near the ABS control unit high under the kick-panel (you'll need to remove this), behind the instrument panel, to the left of the steering wheel. It is on the other side of metal bracket that holds the ABS computer (the large metal box with many wires going into it through a sturdy connector, very close to the left fender). In earlier cars, it is located in the well in the rear trunk that contains the ABS unit. The surge protector looks like a regular relay, except that there is a 10amp fuse pushed into the top of it. If you follow the wires coming from it, you'll see they lead to the main ABS computer
I would still check the bulb first. It's very easy to remove, and it will be obvious if it's broken.

I have had a look and fuse #24 does not appear to be connected to anything, its just a place to hold spare fuses?

I am really puzzled now as i cant see it here or underneath the steering wheel, where it says it is in the manual?
