The surface rust can be dealt with adequately using a suitable rust converter and inhibitor. There are various options on the market. I like Dinitrol where this would be a two stage process. Lanoguard claims to do it all in one.

The bits that are too far gone will need welding. What you need to do this depends how far gone they are. Either suitable plate steel for patches or whole repair panels.

This is all I know about lubricating the UJ in the driveshaft.

I noticed mine looked well-greased the other day and thought that the garage must have maintained it and now I’m doing more of my own maintenance I should look into what’s involved. That’s as far as I’ve got so far.

Sorry, all I know is what I've read in the FAQ. I only just discovered the potential need to lubricate the UJ a couple of weeks ago. Whilst checking something else under the car I noticed mine looked visibly greasy. My immediate thought was that it was a routine maintenance task I wasn't aware of. Subsequent internet research revealed that some UJs are maintainable and have somewhere to attach a grease gun. Essentially, you pump new grease in through a grease nipple and the old grease comes out around the joints. I have yet to explore the possibility of doing this myself.
