In short, you're moving from a small supermini to a luxury turbocharged SUV.

Putting aside considerations of reliability and basic servicing costs, costs for everything else will be up a notch or three over the Corsa.

For a start, according to Autotrader, annual VED for the T6 is £630.

Part of the additional cost will be simply because the XC60 is a AWD SUV, which commands a higher resale price and uses more fuel than a FWD non-SUV such as a V70.

My guess is that a V70 would also take your Greyhound (unless it's actually a bus) and cost less to buy and run. If you have a set budget for the purchase then that budget would buy a newer V70.

You've probably examined this angle, however.

Thanks for the reply and advice.

Yeah I am going to look at a couple of XC60's, v70's and v60's this weekend so it will be interesting to compare them all.

From what I have read online the T6 is around £290 tax per year, but I wouldn't surprise me if that was wrong and it was £600.

And yeah the jump from a corsa to a XC60 is quite a jump. But I want something that is a bit of a tank as I will be driving around my whole family which is a bit daunting :O

And yeah of course will update once I have made a purchase.

Good luck with whatever you choose. I prefer estates as they aren’t as high and are kinder for the dogs joints as they get older jumping down. Each to their own though!

Many thanks.

Regarding people in your car and in your care....

In 1970 when I was a wee 15 year-old gangling adolescent nipper, we went on holiday from North London (AKA Nawf Landon) to Cornwall in a Riley 4/72 with two adults, three adult-sized teenagers, one five year-old child, and a Black Labrador / Springer Spaniel cross. The boot was stuffed, the roof rack was loaded, and the interior was more than stuffed.

No headrests, no seat belts, and probably no insurance cover given that the 4/72 was just a five-seater.

In 1971, I stayed for a week in Boulogne with some school teachers and fellow pupils. One of the teachers drove over in his VW Beetle and this was our way of getting around, even though it sometimes meant squeezing ten people in it. Whilst there, we visited Le Touquet, but a Gendarme spotted us as we were all getting back into the car and said that we couldn't do that. (B*stard!)

Anyway, after some negotiation it was agreed that if we all got in when we were out of his sight then he wouldn't see it and wouldn't be able to do anything about it. So, the teacher drove around the corner, and we walked around the corner, got in and went on our way. Ten in the Beetle only proved to be a real problem when one of the girls fidgeted and knocked the ignition ket to the 'off' position, whereupon we ground to a halt.

Eee, those were the days.

Our V70 came with a Volvo load area cover which is held in place with press studs. It has a fold-down flap that you can fold down over the bumper - if you can restrain your hound while you do it. Ours will launch herself into the boot from several feet away if I open on the remote button. She will use a ramp, but I suspect that all the clobber that goes with a new baby will make space an issue whether V60 or V70. Most buggies seem to be the size of a Mk1 Mini.

That's when a trailer or roof box comes in handy ... for the baby.

Update as promised! Just picked up a T6 XC60 2010 74,000 miles. The seller was asking for £9000 but ended up paying £7400 with a service included, so really happy with the purchase. The car felt fantastic on the drive home so I am over the moon!
