And from the fact that this is EEC regulation the prunes from http://www.dadrl.org.uk/ will be able to do NOTHING about it either..

They must have to much time on there hands.

I see that even good old 2 Jags (or is that now 2 Shags) comments on increased fuel consumption! and another official govt comment about Volvo owners being percieved as aggressive because of DRLs!

Are the biker groups supporting the campaingn looking to have a sole right to keep their headlamp on (quite often a full beam these days)? I think bikers should keep them on. Sometimes you see odd coloured lamps, pink for example, which really help differentiate them from cars (avoiding the blocking out a car with DRL problem mentioned above).

And Monday night driving home down the M40 with a low setting sun behind me, the only cars I could see coming up behind were the sensible ones (not just Volvos) with their headlights on.

Those Xenon lights are distracting with the bumpy road / twitchy light problem. Notice that mostly on BMW and Mercs, etc.

And if you can't turn lights off on new cars after 2010, will you not be allowed on Le Shuttle along with the LPG brigade?

have a head butting compo with an on coming car at 60, i wont be going home in a box.

2ndly.... Dr Henry Warson ,writing for the telegraph in 2003 is probably out of work now cos he's a t***, read it people, no doubt the fool was 200 years old.

Reminds me of when everyone laughed at Volvo when they started fitting high-level rear brake lights as standard....

Now we'll get the clueless drivers feeling they're in a magic bubble of protection because they have a car with DRL's on.

I think the majority of the accidents I've seen recently have been rear end shunts; maybe DRL's aren't the effective in reducing those.

There is nothing, absolutely nothing that can protect you from being an idiot. I refer, of course to the **** who shunts the car infront for the below reasons..
Rear shunts are mostly due to people too close for the speed or dodgy tyres.
Both the province of the idiot driver.

Oli

MAG and BMF have always campaigned against things that the 'nanny state' force upon us.
Ive never managed to find reason to join either, finding I feel alienated against many things they campaign for 'on Bikers behalf'..
Actually you raise a good point about the colouring of headlights. It would be simpler for Bikers to differentiate the bike headlight from the Car headlights.. The majority of UK cars have white/clear lights, Bikes then adopt the yellow lights like the French do. Cost negligible by application of a yellow film over the light. No doubt the fact the DRL problem (for bikers) would be overcome would be by the by. MAG and BMF would probably argue the toss over the fact light levels had been reduced by having yellowed lenses or something.

Your Le Shuttle comment.. do lights have to be 'off' if on the train with an LPG car?

As far as I knew, you are not allowed to have LPG cars on the chunnel.
Theres a few long euro tunnels (through the alps) that don't allow LPG either.
