welll, its funny how googling one day is so different the next!

today i looked up M66 Gearbox and got a useful diagram:

http://www.volvoclub.org.uk/tech/2004r/R5-M66.pdf

its Ducklakeviews contribution regarding detent pins, which draws me to the diagram on sheet 36 on attached link labelled 'part 2'

that is show on thae earlier link as the 'upper ballcatch' (was part 8636177) now part number 30751399, the manual advises as the detent pin for 6th gear.
heres that earlier diagram:

http://www.volvopartswebstore.com/sh...rimLevel=11126

So as they cost £7.20each, so i have ordered two & will report back in due course.

(by the way, i checked the gearshift linkage, it all seems ok)
regards
Kevin

well i changed the ball catches (both) - took 10 minutes. (Old ones seemed in pretty good condition).

It has not however cured the 'jumping out of 6th gear' problem.

If anyone has any other ideas i'd be grateful

Regards

Bump!

pulled the selector assembly out, no apparent wear, anyone identified any problems with the selector assemblies wearing out & what to look for?

(i see they are £115 to replacement part, so i am wondering if its worth a try)

Mine does the same under load. My kid managed to kick the stick out of 6th while I was towing the caravan...ouch!!!
After a quick research, managed to isolate the problem to a heavily worn synchronizer.
I was planning to pull out rhe selector assembly - does that come out easily?
I suspect there will be no damage to it but still...any info is much appreciated!

Default Jumping out of 6th gear

Hi all,
I know this is a very old thread, but did anybody resolve the problem
I have the same issue with my XC90 2004, will stay in gear only on overrun , or downhill, as soon as you put power on jumps out, and you can't even get it into 6th when under power.
