Thumbs up

From where I'm looking - they look to be a pretty good match reading-wise!

Not quite - dipstick says 1/4 whereas the digital says 3/4.

I fitted a full size dipstick to our daughter’s XC70 D5 two years ago. It’s had two dealer annual services since then. On weekly checks the digital display always reads Full OK but the dipstick indicates 1/2. I believe that they fill with 5.5 litres of oil as per Volvo instructions then calibrate the digital display to read Full OK.

fitted my prob 8 month-year ago, one thing i would say, is ONLY check your oil first thing, before you start it up, not after its been standing for 3-4 hours after a run. The difference can be between the top and the bottom of an X on the dipstick. It obviously takes ages to drain right down, and it you read the dipstick when not cold, you could end up adding oil thinking it is low, thus overfilling it. Maybe!!!!! this is why VOLVO,in their wisdom don't fit a proper dipstick,as not everyone will understand the need not to fill it up to the top.

Anyway, mines doesn't use/loose a drop luckily, so haven't looked at it for prob 6-7 months. (had Volvo service in between.) suppose I should / could take a look..

Good point! I should have said the pictures were taken first thing in the morning before starting the engine, and the 0W30 is approximately 6 months old (5000miles).

Also, knowing this means I'll do oil changes with a cold engine from now on instead of operating temperature like I used to.

I always understood there to be a difference between the computer saying full, and the dipstick level because of oil levels rising over time due to diesel making its way into the oil from incomplete dpf regenerations?
