If the car is still in warranty & is approaching the end of said warranty, it can be worth going back to the dealer for some "good will" in case Something Bad happens just outside of warranty. Quite a few years ago now I had an out-of-warranty engine rebuild from Subaru Australia for the cost of the 100k-km service I was needing anyway, because the dealer went to Subaru Oz on my behalf.
I say this 'cos a car bought from Volvo Oz wouldn't be in warranty at 6 years, but given what little I know, it might be there.

In most other circumstances you're better off if you can find a good independent mechanic, and if concerned about OEM quality bits let them know & they can source whatever they need to source. The guy I know & trust has been servicing my wife's Holden Commodore using OEM bits since we bought it (excepting the free 1500km checkup/service), and when it was still within the factory warranty period he wasn't charging any more than the "super duper duper cheap factory-subsidised fixed price!" services at a dealer ... the difference being that the car always came back just as perfectly clean as I handed it over, and I knew none of the work had been skipped (I attribute carelessness/rushing and not malice with dealers on that score).

the link however didnt load for me at all but frankly they were so unhelpful that sod them, ive booked with the independent.

what is it with dealers being unable to answer simple questions or ever return a phone call when they say they will?

link doesnt work for me either, but found the book a service pages, entered reg number and thats all folks,, looks like volvo aint interested in servicing my V50 any longer

At the age of yours, unless there is Any warranty left i would be thinking more along the lines
find a Good indy with Vida subscription who will use Gen volvo parts and go there IF you have your own breakdown cover,

Dealer wise, the £ , the attitude of (local to me one )would be a "not a hope"

I Do however use a non local to me main dealer to supply parts for service and any others it needs and do 90% of the work myself, yes i have invested in tools and gadgets to make life easier
*exhaust , tyres and aux/cambelt excluded i use a Local indy for those, and those Orrible need a ramp replacement part jobs
