true but you'd still want to take it off the car first wouldn't you

and then what other 20 year old rusty insta-snap bolts have you got to contend with

Parts for Volvo also do the repair clamp.

Absilutely get the clamp-on style of repair.

I didn't mention that the "bar" (the single piece of metal which does the hanging at that point) was made of cheap metal which crumbled away rather than rusting progressively.

Also, I could see where that piece of metal had been timorously welded into place. There was no weld penetration to speak of and given it was welded onto exhaust pipe I gotta say it's a bad method. Get the clamp-on repair.

it's a bit of a design fail from the start though to be honest

If the 'hanger' bar wrapped around under the pipe, instead of being fixed across the top, the exhaust wouldn't be at risk of dropping down when the weld snapped



which is, in essence, what the replacement bracket will do
