As above - I use millermatic from Opie.

It's very very straight forward, but make sure you have a suitable funnel that will fit the dipstick tube to hand before you start!

Sorry to hijack this thread, but its sort of related.......

Ive got a 2003 facelifted S80 D5 auto (5 speed believed aisin warner box). Ive just had an ever helpful friend service the car at a BMW main dealer for me where he works as a "cash job", in short he changed the gearbox oil, believed only 3.5 litres worth came out of the 7.2 capacity - but he filled it with dexron II. Having some knowledge of this I know that this is bad as its needs JWS3309 type oil and have not driven the car although it has been moved out of the workshop and run in neutral for around 30 mins.

My question is it probably going to be ok just to fill/drain the system a few times using the drain plug and re-filling through the dipstick?? or will it be necessary to disconnect the oil cooler and lines and flush that way??

any advice/experience welcomed

thanks

In this instance I'd flush using the Gibbons method....a search on here or Google will tell you how. TBH I don't think much of your mate sticking the wrong fluid in it, cash job or not.

I thought that the gibbons method might be the way forwards - cheers.

I'm not too impressed with my mate, thought he would have looked up the specs before putting anything in, was only trying to do me a favour so just going to bite my tongue, next time i'll try and be less lazy and make time to do it myself!!
