Either get it in writting from them and make them replace your bar or show you another with the same "movement"

I have a Volvo original detachable tow ball on my 940 which I transferred from my 960. It was made by Brink and at 12 years old has no play whatsoever once it is fitted.

Who made the tow bar? Brink? Westfalia? Maybe you could contact them directly.

I contacted one other dealer,was`nt too keen,refered me to supplying dealer.

As I said earlier - I have a new Volvo detachable towbar and there is no play what so ever - I move the bar and the car wobbles.

What sort of "Play" do you have? Is it the bar into the socker? Or the mounting underneath? Get the car up and have a look yourself.

Any "play" will cause problems later on

this seems like a stupid situation with volvo telling you,you can only use the supplying dealer.
I would go to an independant towbar fitter and ask them for an inspection and opinion.
or contact the caravan club for information.
