I know a guy who bought his tax disc the day he received the reminder in the post (a law abiding citiezen just like yourself). He displayed the new tax disc in his windscreen, a years worth, and he had a ticket!!!! He had a ticket for displaying it too soon!!!! For Christ's sake.... he bought it the day he received the reminder.... paid for a years worth..... and the idiot gets a fine!!! Oh, sorry, the idiot police man gave him a fine!!!

Now where's the justice!!!

No, it's only from the 15th of the preceeding month - same as getting one at the Post Office

just accept a fine Viper! already guilty mate! LOL

Can you do it over the net? order it before you go away? Ring the DVLA mate, tell them your problem. You wont be alone as thousands of people will be away on hols when their tax runs out, surely they wont all get fines, especially if you can prove you were out of the country and the car was kept off the highway!

If you are going somewhere like france and you are taking your car, could you get the tax disc in dover somewhere! LOL

WTF!!!! If they do that to me, I will be extremely unamused! I always stick the new disc on the moment that I get it so my neighbours don't get any ideas about reporting my car as abandoned.....

No - it's also the 15th of the Month and no earlier on the Net as well!!

I should be getting a discount! I'm not driving the thing for a good 40 days solid a year as I'm abroad so yes it's not kept on the public highway.

I'm just getting my parents to do it for me - but I won't have the new TAX disc when I jump off the plane and back into the car, guarentee there will be pc plods parade or something at the car park exit and someone will notice!!

Road tax should be abolished.

absolutly stupid!

Edit - TV license is the same - my reminder came the other day, so I logged on filled in all the forms, hit submit - "sorry you can't book more than a month in advance" aggghhh why send me the reminder and tell me that I can do it on line two months in advance then, trying to give me time to lose the reminder huh so I forget to do it!

Will be happening at the pumps soon, "sorry sir you can't fill up just yet because you still have some fuel left. you must have no more than 1/2 pint of fuel in your tank before you can refil, go drive around the block a few times.

To go back to the first post, think yourself lucky it was only one fine. A few years ago, a hot summer day and a self adhesive disc holder, yes it came unstuck and fell on the floor, and face up too. I got two failing to display tickets, i did try to argue it out at the police station especially as i got two tickets but with no joy. They can also stick as many tickets as they like on and each one counts separately. Another good one, i had a left hand drive vw so stuck the disc in the offside, oh no..disc must be in the nearside, right in your line of vision, i got away with a warning for it on condition i put it in the middle.
